What is the Freelance Project?
It’s the job skills branch of Youth in Focus. If you’ve completed either of the Advanced classes at YIF you are eligible to join Freelance and start photographing assignments and getting paid. We are just like a freelance photographer; we get requests from individuals, organizations and companies to photograph events, portraits or products for use in advertising, websites, brochures, you name it. We work together with the client on the specifics of their project and come up with a shoot date and gather all the necessary props and backdrops. You will be the photographer and an adult mentor who is familiar with this kind of photo shoot will be there to assist you in completing the assignment and giving the client great photographs! You take the photos and you do the post-production. It’s a great way to get more comfortable working with clients, using different lighting set ups and photographing all kinds of subjects.
We have workshops and practice shoots throughout the year to familiarize yourself with the equipment, learn how to talk to your subject better and find out great lighting techniques for all situations! It’s a great way to keep up with YIF and get paid while taking photos! For more information contact Sherry, the Freelance Project manager, by sending an email to freelance@youthinfocus.org, call 206.407.2126 and leave a message or stop by and see me at YIF. Take a look at our blog to see recent photo shoots and learn more about freelance!
